Getting started

  1. Install Mint Affiliates from the Shopify App Store.
  2. On the app's home page, click Open theme editor, make sure Affiliate tracking is on under App embeds, and click Save. (Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds.)
  3. Open Settings and choose what affiliates earn, the discount their audience gets, the referral window and your return window.
  4. Click Add affiliate to add someone you already work with, or share your signup page (/apps/affiliates on your store) and approve applications on the home page.
  5. Test it: open an affiliate's referral link in a private window. The visit appears on the home page, and an order placed in that session is credited once it's paid.

How orders are credited

When an order is paid, it's credited to one affiliate, in this order of priority:

  1. the affiliate whose discount code was used at checkout;
  2. otherwise, the affiliate whose referral link the shopper arrived through, saved in the cart for your referral window;
  3. otherwise, an affiliate's ?ref= link on the page where the shopper's visit started.

Only codes created for active affiliates count, so your other promo codes are never credited to anyone. Paused affiliates don't earn commission. Commission is calculated on what the customer paid for products after discounts, excluding shipping, taxes and gift cards.

Refunds and cancellations

  • Refunded items take back their share of the commission, pro rata by quantity. When everything is refunded, the full commission is taken back.
  • A refund of money without items (for example a goodwill refund) reduces the commission by the same share of what the customer paid for the items. Shipping-only refunds don't change it.
  • Cancelled orders earn nothing.
  • If you've already paid an affiliate for an order that's later refunded, the difference is deducted from their next payout.
  • You can set any order's commission by hand on the Orders page; later refunds then don't change it.

Paying affiliates

Mint Affiliates never moves money. Commission becomes payable after your return window. On Payouts, select affiliates and click Create payout to freeze the amounts, pay them your own way, then click Mark as paid. On Pro you can download a PayPal payouts file and upload it at PayPal → Pay & Get Paid → Payouts. If an affiliate changes their PayPal email in their dashboard, you'll see a warning to check it before paying.

Affiliate dashboard and sign-in

Affiliates sign in at the dashboard link shown on your home page. They enter their email and get a sign-in link that works once and expires after 15 minutes. You can also open an affiliate and click Create sign-in link to get a one-time link (valid 72 hours) to send them yourself. If affiliate emails aren't available, the home page tells you, and this is how affiliates sign in.

Common questions

A referred order wasn't credited. Check that the affiliate is active, the app embed is on in your live theme, and the order is paid. If the shopper declined cookies in your cookie banner and didn't use the affiliate's code, the referral can't be remembered (you can change this under Settings → Referral tracking). Orders are credited when Shopify reports them as paid.

A discount code couldn't be created. Discount codes must be unique in your store. Open the affiliate, change their code and save.

I changed the app proxy URL. The signup page and link tracking use /apps/affiliates. If you changed that path under Apps → Mint Affiliates → App proxy, change it back.

What happens if I uninstall? Tracking stops. Your affiliates' discount codes stay in Shopify Discounts (delete them there if you're ending the program). We delete all program data 48 hours after uninstall.

Billing

The Free plan includes up to 5 active affiliates with links, codes, commission tracking, refund reversal, the signup page, the affiliate dashboard and payout tracking. Pro is billed through Shopify at $9.99/month after a 7-day free trial and adds unlimited affiliates, monthly tiers, product rates, the PayPal payouts file and dashboard branding. There are no transaction fees. If you cancel Pro, affiliates beyond the first 5 are paused (their history is kept). Cancel anytime from the app's Plans page or by uninstalling.

Privacy

See our privacy policy and security policy. In short: no shopper personal data is stored, and affiliates' details are deleted when you delete the affiliate.
